Nothing good lasts forever, but Thursday morning brought with it one heckuva shock to the football world. Zinedine Zidane, manager of Real Madrid for the past three seasons, is stepping down. No, he’s not being let go. This isn’t one of those ‘by mutual consent’ decisions. Zidane is choosing to walk away from Madrid after three seasons in charge. Of course, this comes just days after securing their third consecutive Champions League title. But according to Zidane himself, per ESPN’s Dermot Corrigan, it’s time for a change.“I am doing this for the good of this team, for this club,” Zidane starts. “…I want to end with Real Madrid when everything is going well. …This the right moment to end things well.”So, what’s the biggest reason why Zidane believes change is necessary? To put it simply, he doesn’t know how much more he can do. Rather, he doesn’t know how much more success he is capable of leading them towards. Therefore, he’s stepping a side.
