Browns executive shines negative light on Josh Rosen, Josh Allen

Cleveland Browns executive Alonzo Highsmith, who is considered to be the right-hand man of general manager John Dorsey, had some very interesting things to say about Josh Rosen and Josh Allen, who were considered by the Browns at the top of the draft.Highsmith, speaking at the Pro Football Hall of Fame luncheon on Monday, revealed he actually had Darnold at the top of his board for most of the pre-draft process. But after meeting with Baker Mayfield, whom the Browns ended up selecting No. 1 overall, he changed his mind. “Then comes the part where you meet them off the field. You watch their workouts. You watch everything,” Highsmith said, per Steve Doerschuck of CantonRep.com. And Baker blew me away. Highly, highly intelligent. Highly competitive. “And he had a trait that some of the good ones have. I call it efficacy. That includes the power to effect other people. I thought that of all the quarterbacks I watched, he stood out far and above the other guys. When he walked into a room, you knew he was there.”

Baker Mayfield again refutes Johnny Manziel comparisons

Until he gets out on the field and shows otherwise, Baker Mayfield is going to have to live with Johnny Manziel comparisons. The No. 1 pick of the Cleveland Browns seems to know this, and he has a pretty good response to those who would make such a comparison.“It’s understandable, obviously,” Mayfield told the MMQB’s Peter King when told that a fan had referred to the quarterback as Manziel 2.0. “First-round picks by the Browns, close to the same size, playmakers … But we’re two completely different people. I care about winning. I care about doing things the right way. I just want to be judged for who I am.”It’s the best answer Mayfield can offer right now. All that matters is that the Browns aren’t buying those comparisons, and Mayfield seems to understand the expectations he’s facing — and why Manziel failed to meet similar ones. Ultimately, it will come down to whether he can play well enough to disprove these comparisons.

Elway on Paxton Lynch: 'We are not kicking him to the curb'

The Denver Broncos aren’t ready to give up on 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch just yet, even though many people have already written him off as a bust. John Elway made this point perfectly clear on Monday as the team kicked off its second phase of offseason workouts.“We are not kicking him to the curb,’’ Elway said, per Mike Klis of 9News in Denver. “He can still develop. When we drafted him two years ago, as I said, we knew it was going to take some time.”At this time there’s no doubt that Case Keenum, whom the team signed to a two-year deal in free agency, is the starting quarterback. Denver abstained from taking a passer in the draft, so right now Lynch will be in a competition with last year’s Mr. Irrelevant, Chad Kelly, for the primary backup role.“Paxton is going to compete with Chad for that backup spot. We are not going to bring another one in for OTAs. We will take a peek at that. It will be those two and Case. We are going to OTAs with those guys and go from there.”Given the fact that Denver did

Stephen Curry is expected to make his 2018 playoff debut in Game 2 against the New Orleans Pelicans Tuesday night, and the two-time MVP is trying not to set his expectations too high. In case we needed further evidence, Tom Brady said himself that he’ll be playing in 2018.Brady made the announcement while speaking with Jim Gray at the Milken Institute Global Conference on Monday, while adding that he might play several more years as well. He also gave some brief insight on his relationship with coach Bill Belichick. It’s not a ringing endorsement of Belichick and if you want to read into it, it may back up some of the reporting about a somewhat strained relationship. Still, this sounds like Brady plans to play even beyond this year, and things are good enough for now. That should put a lot of speculation to rest for at least a little while.

ESPN reportedly offering Witten more than $4 million per year

If Jason Witten decides he wants to continue playing for the Dallas Cowboys next season, the star tight end may be turning down one of the best job offers anyone without broadcasting experience has ever received.David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports that ESPN has made Witten an offer that would pay him in the range of $4 to 4.5 million annually to serve as the lead analyst for “Monday Night Football.” The prestige associated with the job combined with the hefty salary would help explain why Witten seems to be having second thoughts about returning to the field in 2018.Witten caught 63 passes for 560 yards and five touchdowns last season, so he is still capable of producing. However, he may not get a better offer down the road than the one ESPN is presenting him with this offseason. Many players throughout the years have predicted that their teams will overtake the New England Patriots in the AFC East, but Bill Belichick’s team has won the division nine consecutive years and 15 out of the last 17. The Jets receiver later said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he was merely responding to a question in that interview, but he sees no reason why New York can’t win the AFC East.“Obviously, I just wanted to agree,” Enunwa said. “I think they may be. But I also think that we’re capable of finally dethroning them. I think that we’ve always been. It’s just about getting over that hump of finishing games. Dave Roberts benched Cody Bellinger for lack of hustle

Things are not going well for the Los Angeles Dodgers on the field. Following Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles sits at 12-16 and in fourth place in the NL West. But an incident between Dave Roberts and Cody Bellinger during Sunday’s game might point to a bigger problem. In the fifth inning, Bellinger hit a ball to right center field that would have out of most ballparks. Unfortunately for Bellinger, the deep wall at AT&T park kept his ball in the park. The area is known as “Triple’s Alley” because generally speaking, hitters who put balls out there easily end up at third base. Yet, Bellinger coasted to a double. Not long after, he was removed from the game. Roberts made the reasoning very clear. He also seemed to imply that this was not a one-time problem. Bellinger took issue with the idea that he doesn’t hustle. He explained the situation and noted that based on the game situation, trying to take third wouldn’t have made sense. Interesting.Bellinger’s overall point is correct. When y

The Nashville Predators pulled off a big win on Sunday night against the Winnipeg Jets thanks to a huge goal from Kevin Fiala.Fiala scored just over five minutes into the second overtime to give the Predators a 5-4 victory that tied their second-round playoff series at a game apiece. Nashville blew a 4-3 lead late in the game that sent things to overtime. From there it took another 25 minutes for a winner to be decided. Fiala says winning in that fashion “shows great character.” Getting the win was big because the series now heads to Winnipeg for Game 3. Had they lost, they would have been in danger of seeing the series end in a sweep.

Cowboys reportedly still interested in Earl Thomas trade

The Dallas Cowboys have been trying to trade for Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas for a while now, but it didn’t happen during the 2018 NFL Draft. That doesn’t mean it cannot still happen, however, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.Moore reported Sunday that, “The Cowboys’ attraction to Thomas is real. An inability to swing a deal tied to the draft doesn’t diminish their desire going forward.” He also notes that Dallas is willing “to play the long game here with an approach similar to what it did for the draft, one that requires patience and resolve.”Perhaps feeding into this continued desire to nab Thomas from Seattle is the simple fact that Dallas didn’t draft a single safety this year.Though, the team has signed three undrafted rookies to compete at this position, per Moore. He notes that this really will come down to whether Thomas and the Seahawks can work out a long-term contract extension. If that doesn’t happen, and if Thomas becomes disgruntled because of it, then that’s when Dal

Did you see the score?” Hundley said. “We’d given up 15 runs before that, so obviously the signs weren’t very good.”Sandoval’s hitting has been below average to downright awful since his return to San Francisco, and he’s hitting a modest .237 this season. Former NFL linebacker and executive Matt Millen will likely need of a heart transplant. Smartest NFL draft pick for each team

The NFL draft is in the books, and now it’s time to get to work putting the selected players in the best position to succeed with their new teams. Some NFL draft picks were made based on potential. Some picks were made based on need. In some instances, the best possible player fell into the laps of teams that needed them the most. For the purposes of this list, we’re looking at the draft picks that were tailor made for each team. Some of them are easy to identify, being first-round picks. Others were late-round gems who’ll become stars. These were the smartest selections from the 2018 NFL Draft.Dallas Cowboys: Connor Williams, guard/tackleThis was a no-brainer. When Dallas was on the clock in the second round and Williams — a homegrown talent who can play either guard or tackle spot — was still available, the Cowboys had to bring him into the fold. The Cowboys lost starting guard Jonathan Cooper in free agency to the San Francisco 49ers. So barring an unexpected turn of events, it looks like Williams, who’s a p

LeBron brings A-game as Cavs top Pacers in Game 7

LeBron James is still the king, and now his Cavaliers are moving on to the second round. Up next, LeBron and the Cavs will battle the Raptors. And if he plays anything like he did this series (it’s playoff LeBron, so obviously) then the Raptors are in a lot of trouble. But on Sunday afternoon, the king would remind us all why he’s the king. 45 points on 16-of-25 from the field (11-of-15 from the charity stripe), nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals. That’s one helluva Game 7 performance. But this time, James didn’t have to do it alone. Tristan Thompson would get the surprise start, delivering a surprise performance in return with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting while hauling in 20 rebounds. This time, Victor Oladipo’s heroics — 30 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and three steals — weren’t enough.Going forward, how much more can the king do? We’re about to find out, of course. But if it’s anything like past years, the Raptors are in trouble.

John Wall indicates he is unhappy with some of his Wizards teammates

John Wall met with the Washington Wizards for his exit interview after the team was bumped out of the playoffs by the Toronto Raptors in six games, and the star point guard made it clear that he wants some new teammates next season. As ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk notes, Wall did not mention anyone by name when he sat down with team officials. However, he made it clear that he felt personality clashes have become an issue and some Washington players are either unhappy with their role or don’t understand it.“I just think you can kind of tell when guys, when things are going well, everybody is happy, everybody wants to be here,” Wall said. “But when things get rough, that is when you really figure out who is your brother, who is really in the war with you, who is really in the fight with you. I think anybody can see from the outside — or the inside looking in — who really wanted to be here when things weren’t going great for us, but when it is all happy go jolly, and we are winning, it is all fun and games.”It’s hard t

Is calling someone a "bandwagon" normal?

So my friends that are really into sports say its normal to call people bandwagons. But that doesn't make any sense to me, since the term comes from "jumping on the bandwagon." There's no way that calling someone a bandwagon makes sense( at least to me). Apparently I can't understand because I don't watch sports, where people call people that when they like a team cause everyone else does. So, /r/sports, who is right?

WATCH: Jets head coach Todd Bowles has cameo in 'Luke Cage'

Season 2 of Netflix’s popular series “Luke Cage” is set to drop later this summer, and New York Jets fans will see a familiar face in head coach Todd Bowles at some point.Apparently in this new season, Cage ends up showing off his insane athleticism in some sort of exhibition. Bowles shows up during this sequence, looking about as natural in front of the camera as he does on the podium for interviews (meaning he’s still the same blank slate as always). Bowles must be ecstatic about his team landing one of the best quarterbacks in the recent draft. Just don’t expect him to show it. He’s not exactly the type to wear his emotions on his sleeve. He usually flies pretty low under the national radar, because he’s not a quote machine very often and doesn’t let his personality out very often. But perhaps due to his involvement in “Luke Cage,” he’s currently the No. 7 most talked-about coach in the league, per SNIPdaily’s Head Coach Top 40.

The Houston Rockets are getting a boost in the form of Luc Mbah a Moute’s return to the lineup for the Western Conference semifinals.Mbah a Moute dislocated his shoulder in early April, a frustrating injury that cost him the first round of the playoffs. He will play, however, as the Rockets open round two against the Utah Jazz. Even though Mbah a Moute isn’t one of Houston’s core players, this is nicely timed. He’s a key part of their reserve unit and a quality defender, and they’ll be pleased that the only meaningful time he missed was the West quarterfinal that they cruised through anyway.

However, Sullivan remarked that Malkin did not suffer a setback. Report: Shaquem Griffin fell in draft over inaccurate 40 time

Shaquem Griffin turned heads everywhere with a 4.38 time in the 40-yard dash, but it turns out that number was reportedly not quite accurate and his draft stock was adjusted accordingly.Griffin’s original 4.38 time caught the attention of pretty much everyone at the NFL Combine, a time which quickly moved him into the top 100 of many draft boards. However, according to Frank Cooney of NFLDraftScout, the clock started a touch late on Griffin’s 40 run, and his time was closer to 4.58.Griffin was readjusted down draft boards accordingly, with his time going from elite to merely solid.None of this stopped Griffin from becoming a fifth-round pick for the Seattle Seahawks, sparking emotional scenes. It’s too bad the 40 time wasn’t quite accurate, but it doesn’t do much to dampen a great story.

Charles Woodson has great reaction to Raiders GM’s son being drafted by Chiefs

Fans may have found it a bit awkward that Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie passed on drafting his own son, but Charles Woodson is downright horrified by where the former Tennessee star ended up.Kahlil McKenzie, who was a defensive tackle with the Vols but impressed teams by running offensive line drills at his Pro Day, was drafted in the sixth round by the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs, of course, are one of Oakland’s most fierce rivals, and Woodson joked with Reggie McKenzie that Kahlil should retire before he plays for KC.“I got a text from Charles Woodson who told me ‘your son has to retire. There’s no way he can put that red helmet on his head,'” McKenzie shared with reports, via Black and Silver Pride. “Part of me felt that way, but in all seriousness it’s a good opportunity for him and I was hoping that he would land at a spot that will kind of grow him to that position. He can play D-tackle, but I think he could be special on the offensive line. That’s where we were going to play him.”K

Chauncey Billups: Pistons rumors in ‘bad taste’

Former Pistons star and current ABC analyst Chauncey Billups doesn’t want to be associated with rumors involving Detroit’s front office while the current management team remains in place, writes Vince Ellis of The Detroit Free Press. The first report came in March from Marc Stein of The New York Times, who tweeted that Billups might be brought in to run the organization along with former agent Arn Tellem. Billups denied the rumor at the time, and owner Tom Gores responded with the word “False.”Billups repeated his stance Saturday at an autograph session in the Detroit area.“I think that was in bad taste,” he said. “Everybody knows that I have the desire to run a team at some point, but I would never discuss or talk about a job that’s not open. That’s not my character. That’s not how I am, so I was a little angry about the report that came out. The timing of it was bad. Bills to hold open competition with Josh Allen, other QBs

There will be 52 other players out there and if they see that he’s clearly the best, I don’t think we (bench him). Griffin determined to prove he's not just a 'feel good story'

One of the best stories of the entire 2018 NFL Draft without question has been the emergence of former Central Florida linebacker Shaquem Griffin. As a result of a rare condition in the womb, Shaquem lost his left hand at age 4. Despite having only one hand, Griffin went on to be a star with the Knights, who did not lose a game last season. Stephen Curry is ‘very likely’ to return for Game 2

Ahead of Game 1, head coach Steve Kerr would rule Curry out. But he says he’s “very likely” to suit up for Game 2.Curry, of course, hasn’t played all postseason long while recovering from a knee injury. And in 75 postseason appearances, he is averaging 26.2 points per game, 6.6 assists per game and 5.1 rebounds per game.Again, the Warriors didn’t need him in Game 1. But Curry is the player that makes Golden State run. During the regular season, he would average 26.1 points, 6.1 assists and 5.1 rebounds while pacing the league in free throw percentage (92.1). Bills GM hints team could have interest in Dez Bryant

The NFL Draft has officially come and gone, and teams that feel they have not done enough to improve at the wide receiver position this offseason can still explore the possibility of adding Dez Bryant. Will the Buffalo Bills be one of those teams?Between the chronic knee problems Kelvin Benjamin has and the insane offseason Zay Jones has had, you could say the Bills have some uncertainty at receiver. They tried to address that by taking Clemson’s Ray-Ray McLoud and North Carolina’s Austin Proehl late in the draft, but Buffalo GM Brandon Beane admitted over the weekend that he has at least taken a look at Bryant.“We’ll look at everything,” Beane said, via the Bills’ official website. “We have looked at Dez on tape, but I wouldn’t take it any further and I don’t know where that would go. Does anyone else love the sport of Basketball but hate the NBA?

I have two major problems with the NBA. The joke of the draft "lottery" system and the predictability of the entire league and how NBA seasons feel like a complete waste of time and feel pointless.

Let's be real, did anyone think the Bucks would actually upset the Celtics last night? Does anyone actually think the Pacers will upset the Cavs tonight?

We all know what will happen, LeBron will play like a mad man, Pacers will lose, Cavs will still make the Finals and the Finals matchup will be ::::::drum roll:::: yep, how did you guess?! The Cavs V Warriors.

Seen this movie a million times. Watching the NBA is a lot like watching Titanic over and over again and hoping everytime that maybe this time the ship won't sink or maybe this time Rose let's Jack on that damn door and they both survive.

BUT nope, it's the same song and dance over and over and over again. The thing that makes this worse is I actually LOVE the sport of Basketball, it takes true skill and talent, it's extremely fun to watch and I love the pacing of the game.

I just hate how there is literally 0 parity in the NBA and it is way, WAY too predictable. It's set up so only one or two teams dominate for years while all the other teams just basically get participation trophies.

Oh and there is the joke of a draft "lottery" it's not like it's rigged. I mean after all, what are the odds of Celveland getting the first pick in the draft the same year a hometown hero from Cleveland that happens to be GOAT declares for the draft.
