Washington Capital's Tom Wilson should be suspended for the rest of the season for his hit on Penguin's Zach Aston-Reese last night.

This hit is a perfect example, but this goes for NFL football as well as hockey, and any other contact sport. The NHL should change their rules so that the MINIMUM penalty for an illegal hit that results in an injury should be a suspension of the same length as the recovery of the person injured.

Tom Wilson broke Zach Aston-Reese's jaw with an illegal hit to the head, also causing a concussion. He will require surgery and therefore I'm sure is out for the rest of the playoffs. The Penguins have been deprived of a player during the playoffs. How would a one or two game suspension be a fair punishment for that? The only thing that makes sense is that the punishment fits the crime, so to speak.

To be clear, I think this should apply only to illegal hits. Legal hits are part of the game, whether it's football or hockey, and players accept that risk when they sign their contracts.
